“I must say that after a long, long time I watched a truly fascinating film – a story portraying a bitter life-long journey of an almost forgotten genius, an outstanding documentary both in terms of its script and its directing – as seen through the recollections of Hudec’s children; a film shot by a perceptive camera and featuring music (classical and original Chinese pop songs from the 1930s and 1940s) that intensified the final impression. I can’t remember the last time I was so sorry to see a movie end. But it has not yet ended for me. I have fallen in love with the family of architect Hudec for their optimism, togetherness and unassuming behaviour.

I was enchanted by the ingenuity, precision and sense of beauty shown by the architect’s works.  I am convinced that this documentary will enthral audiences in all corners of the world.”

The documentary on architect Ladislav Hudec proves that scripts written by life itself far exceed even the most sophisticated fiction invented by scriptwriters. I have to take my hat off to you and the amount of what had to be literally detective work you yourself and your crew had to put in while tracing down the details of the life and work of our famous, yet forgotten, native. The mere facts you present in your film deserve maximum attention and praise, but you have used those facts to create a convincing documentary, which remarkably intertwines the present with unique file footage, recollections and comments by the architect’s charming children with examples of his architectural projects. I watched this document on Slovak Television twice and virtually breathless I realized just how profound is your sense for capturing architecture (I had admired that also in your other documentary “Moderna slovenska

architektura“), a unique talent of a filmmaker, which is not granted to all and sundry. I would like to thank you for this unusual experience which brought not only new information but also a sense of pride in finding that our nation has borne people who deserve attention of the entire cultural world.
